Suspension of Competitions

19 Mar 2020

The BSAWA Board has been carefully monitoring the situation regarding the COVID-19 virus. We have previously been prepared to go ahead with events because in WA there had not been any instances of community transmission – this has changed today, with 17 new confirmed cases including 12 who had not travelled overseas.

As a result, the BSAWA has resolved to suspend all competitions until further notice. This brings us into line with the announcement from the ABSC and virtually every Snooker association across the country. This includes the Ranking Event scheduled for this Sunday at PBFPSC North Perth.

When it is deemed safe to return to playing events, we will attempt to re-schedule where possible throughout the rest of the year.

We still encourage you to have a game of Billiards or Snooker when you can, and in particular to continue supporting the Pot Black Family Pool & Snooker Centres who give us so much support. It is the dynamic of a tournament where players are standing around for extended periods of time waiting for matches that we are concerned about. The consequences of a single case of infection spreading at one of our tournaments are unthinkable.

We wish everybody to stay safe and healthy, not to panic, and follow the advice of health authorities. Thank you for your understanding.
