Bolton Breaks Own Record

Matthew Bolton has set a new record for the highest break in the Australian Billiards Championship with a massive 809 in the Quarter Final. This beats his previous mark of 736 set in 2014, which broke Bob Marshall's record of 702, a break which had stood for 60 years.

It was an incredible day of scoring for Matthew, who followed the 809 with breaks of 210, 255, and 211 in the Quarter Final against Victorian Robbie Chilcott to win 1719-211 over 2.5 hours. In the semi final against NSW's Todd Hayward over 3.5 hours, Matthew stepped up again with 290, 455, 426, and 620 to win 2453-512. This gave Matthew a total of 4172 points over 6 hours play.

The 809 mark is not Matthew's personal best - he scored 831 in the IBSF World Billiards Championship in 2011, which remains the highest break by an Australian under the modern rules, but this is the record for a break in the prestigious Australian Billiards Championship.

Matthew takes on Joe Minici in today's final, seeking his 15th Australian National Billiards title.
